Dr. Francis Buzad is a board certified general surgeon helping people in the Austin area since 2003. His passion for serving others through general surgery took root in his childhood years when he sustained penetrating abdominal trauma from shrapnel injury in his homeland of Lebanon. He owes his survival to the skill of a general surgeon, and this ultimately set his future vocation as a surgeon. As a lasting effect, he stands out in his field today for his unique combination of technologically forward skills and personal patient involvement.

After graduating from the University of Scranton, Dr. Buzad earned his medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh and then completed his general surgery training at the University of Texas Medical Branch in 1999. He then pursued additional fellowship training in hand and microvascular surgery at Oregon Health Sciences University. Following his training, he worked in Oregon and California before moving to Austin.

Dr. Buzad has a focus in the area of minimally invasive surgery and the application of robotics in surgical practice. One of the first general surgeons to adopt robotics into his practice in 2008, he has since achieved extensive experience in the field. He is a recognized opinion leader in robotics, an epicenter surgeon for Intuitive Surgical, and contributing author for multiple publications in the field.

His interests include surgery of the GI tract (colorectal, small bowel, stomach, gallbladder), foregut (gastroesophageal reflux, hiatal hernia, achalasia), hernia (inguinal, incisional, umbilical), endocrine (adrenal, thyroid, parathyroid) and breast surgery. Additionally, he treats hand conditions including carpal tunnel, trigger fingers and soft tissue lesions.

Dr. Buzad achieves tremendous satisfaction from the personal connection established with patients during their sojourn through the treatment process. He finds that his personal experiences add a dimension of empathy and caring that are a critical element to the overall wellbeing of the patient.

He finds the right amount of balance with his professional commitments by spending time with his wife and his three children. He enjoys outdoor sports including skiing, running, wakeboarding and mountain climbing. He is also a martial arts enthusiast and an avid reader.
